You may seen recently in the media details of the ongiong eczema trials taking place in hard water areas across the UK. For many years, our customers have been marvelling at the difference that soft water has made to skin conditions inclduing eczema and psoriasis. It has been thought that there may be two reasons for this, firstly there is less irritation from soap products as less soap is required to create a lather, secondly in hard water scum (formed when Magnesum reacts with soap) blocks pores in the skin and prevents natural oils coming to the skin, causing dryness and irritation.
In conjuction with Softeners Manufacturers, the Centre of Evidence Based Dermatology, at The University of Nottingham are conducting a clinical trial to see if water softeners help children with eczema. There are study centres in Nottingham, Leicetster, Boston, Cambridge, Enfield, Portsmouth, Newport (Isle of Wight). More information can be found at Softened Water Eczema Trial
